Stillness and Silence

A DESERT MEDITATION RETREAT

DEC 14 - 17, 2025

A Gaia Villa Curated Retreat

Guest Facilitator: Adam Moskowitz, Mindfulness & Meditation Instructor

WHY THIS RETREAT, WHY NOW

Who this retreat is for:

New or seasoned meditators, this retreat is those who would like to slow down, let go of daily demands, and be nourished by silence, nature, and community.

We encourage wellness practitioners (such as holistic healers, healthcare workers, educators, and counselors)  to attend. The practice of replenishment is often postponed, yet it’s essential for the capacity to show up fully for your work and communities.

What to expect:

For the first 24 hours, we will take time to relax, enjoy mingling and connecting, and experience the desert’s vast beauty within Joshua Tree National Park. Beginning on the second evening, we will enter a period of silence and guided mindfulness practices. This will include gentle sitting (on cusions, charis, or lying down) and walking meditation, mindful movement, and journaling. The retreat will then reopen to group reflections and reconnecting.

This retreat is open to new and experienced practitioners of meditation and mindfulness. While some may initially feel hesitant to get quiet in this way, most discover a deep, previously unrecognized longing for it. When paired with mindfulness, community, nourishing food, nature, the silence offers an unparalleled opportunity to renew.

Gentle mindfulness practices, noble silence, movement, journaling, and time in the Mojave’s winter quiet will guide you back to your own innate wisdom. At Gaia Villa, we invite you into a beautiful, communal setting where body, mind, and heart are cared for equally.

Adam Moskowitz guides individuals, groups, and organizations through mindfulness and embodiment-based practices that foster presence, healing, and transformation. His approach is grounded in compassion, clarity, and a deep belief that personal and collective evolution begins with seeing ourselves clearly and tending to the fractures within.

Adam’s teaching journey began in education, where he developed school-wide mindfulness programs impacting over a thousand Bay Area students and educators. His own path was shaped by intensive study and silent retreats in the Zen and Vipassana traditions, leading to certifications with Mindful Schools and the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical Center.

Today, Adam leads retreats, workshops, and customized programs, and serves as adjunct faculty at Antioch University. Currently in advanced Hakomi training, he integrates mindfulness-centered somatic psychotherapy into his work, creating safe, inclusive spaces where participants can reconnect with the innate wisdom of mind, body, and heart.
